Legislative Update
We are in the midst of the 2025 Legislative session. The NHPS is working closely with the Dupont group and NH medical society to identify important bills to support and oppose. Keep your eyes out for emails requesting calls to action on legislative items that need more support. If you would like to get involved with the advocacy efforts of the NHPS, please reach out to Catrina Watson at Catrina.Watson@nhms.org.
Advocacy Day
Advocacy Day will be held on Friday, May 2nd in Concord, NH. Please reach out to Catrina Watson at Catrina.Watson@nhms.org if you are interested in joining this educational session which includes, among other things, a tour of the State House and meetings with NH lobbyists and legislators.

Prior Events
2024 Sunapee Cruise
We had a wonderful turn out for our annual cruise on October 5th 2024, which took place on Lake Sunapee this year. The weather was perfect, and the foliage was stunning. We hope you can join us next year when the cruise returns to Portsmouth. The cruise is free to all members and family, and food/drink are provided.
NHPS Reception at the 2024 APA annual meeting
The APA Annual meeting in May 2024 was well attended by New Hampshire psychiatrists, many of whom presented workshops, talks and posters. A number of NH psychiatrists came together at Il Punto Restaurant during the meeting at a NHPS sponsored reception with appetizers and drinks. It was a great opportunity to gather together in person. We are hoping to find more ways to connect and gather with each other in person.
2024 NHPS Annual Meeting
We were treated to a number of wonderful talks at the NHPS annual meeting on May 24th, including talks on AI in psychiatry, autism spectrum disorder in adults, and psychopharmacology for treatment resistant conditions. Dr. Torrey was awarded the NHPS Leadership Award for his Leadership in Mental Health Services in NH. We look forward to having many of you join us again for this educational opportunity next year. CME is available.
2024 NHPS Advocacy Day
We had a successful advocacy day in March with strong attendance from a number of residents from New Hampshire psychiatry residency programs. This is an annual event. If you missed it this year, please join us next spring.

2024 Legislative Update
The legislative session has come to a close. The NHPS actively advocated on a number of bills, on topics including gun control legislation and protection of transgender individuals. NHPS also supported the NH medical society in advocating for women’s health, prior authorization reform, and provider scope of practice. We would like to thank Ava Hawkes, the NHMS director of advocacy, for her help with our advocacy efforts. Please consider joining our Legislative Committee if you would like to get more involved.
Testifying on behalf of the NHPS in the New Hampshire Legislature requires formal pre-approval from the Legislative Committee and President of the NHPS. The NHPS puts careful thought into which bills it will and will not take action on in order to best advocate for the citizens of our state. Approval from NHPS is not required for any individual to testify on behalf of themselves.
